A Pharaoh down an Alley in Fengshan

In a quite inconspicuous alley of Fengshan hides a spectacular statue of an Egyptian Pharaoh. Non-local people would be surprised by a glimpse of the Pharaoh at the street corner. The nearly-four-meter-high statue of Pharaoh has been perfectly placed on the arcade for five years. Instead of a stone statue, the statue of Pharaoh has been windswept and battered by rain, and some Styrofoam parts were worn away.

An Egyptian Scene in an Alley

Seldom people know where the statue came from. Much to our relief, a neighbor led us to the house of its owner. He said that the statue had been one of the artistic works in the 2012 exhibition of ancient Egypt and Mummy in National Science and Technology Museum. After the exhibition, he worked as a plumber/electrician there. While the statue of Pharaoh was about to be dumped, he went to negotiate with the company before bringing back home several pieces of art, including the statue.

Several years have passed, and nearby residents or passers-by are accustomed to the view. Those who go out of their way to come here and take pictures are non-locals. Other artistic works had been given to the interested people, while the statue of Pharaoh is too gigantic to move away. There was a day when a typhoon came, and the statue was blown and cut in half on the street. Currently the owner is waiting for a perfect time to disembody the statue for recycling.

We think that the statue will stay here for a while. It either looks at people on this quiet street, or will be moved to another corner of street by someone else. At that time, we may come across it again.
